World War Two (WWII) took place during the years 1939-1945 and included many of the worlds nations. The Axis and the Allies were the two military alliances that fought against one another throughout WWII. The war in the novel 1984 consists of Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia. This idea of having three "superstates" relates back to the "Axis" and "Allies" that fought in WWII. Life in the United Kingdom during WWII was a struggle for several citizens, just as life for the citizens in the novel 1984 by, George Orwell struggled severely. There are many events that occurred in the United Kingdom during WWII that directly relate to 1984. Initially the bombings that took place in London, England, the rations and distribution of food to all the citizens, as well as the difference in social class all relate back and connect to the novel 1984.
